Leopard Cat Rice
At the foot of the mountains in Miaoli, Taiwan, the leopard cats hunt for food. But due to loss of habitat, they have been ruining crops and eating farmer’s chickens, resulting in the dwindling of their numbers. The leopard cat is now considered endangered in Taiwan. To save these cats, a local conservation group has worked with the farmers to come up with rice puff snacks, made from the very crops the leopard cats used to destroy. Come have a taste of these rice puff snacks and join the conservation effort!
About the Artist
The Leopard Cat Rice uses the concept of “watershed recovery” to create and promote a pesticide-free habitat for the leopard cats of Taiwan. To expand and conserve both agriculture and the endangered wild cat species, organic farming methods are used to produce the “Leopard Cat Rice.” This brand not only protects the wildlife, it also encourages more farmers and youth to participate in environmentally-friendly practices. With the model of “inviting the consumers into the agricultural experience,” farmers are able to tell the story of their land, and people are able to learn where their food comes from.
